The construction of a freeway linking the city of Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province to the city of Bazargan in Maku county of West Azarbaijan on the Turkish border is expected to be completed in a month, the CEO of Maku Free Trade Zone said. ISNA also quoted Hossein Forouzan as saying on Saturday that the project is one of the top priorities of the government. “It will bring about positive changes in Maku’s economy and turn the region into a transit corridor between Iran and Europe,” he said. Turkish company Bergiz Insaat has invested in the construction of the $2-billion route, which spans 255 kilometers along northwestern Iran. Iran is hoping to turn Maku FTZ into a key trade and industrial hub. Bazargan border-crossing is already one of the busiest trade portals of Iran.
