Domestic rice production is projected to reach 2.3 million tons in the current Iranian year (March 2016-17), according to Kaveh Khaksar with the Ministry of Agriculture. Rice farmers in the northern provinces of the country are now in the midst of harvesting, Mehr News Agency reported. Gilan and Mazandaran provinces are home to a majority of Iran’s paddy fields. Iranians consume 3 million tons of rice every year.
