Parliamentarians on Wednesday voted for Adel Azar to become the new director general of the Supreme Audit Court of Iran for a four-year term.

Azar, who has served as director of the Statistical Center of Iran for seven years, had been nominated by the Majlis Planning, Budget and Audit Commission, IRNA reported.

The Supreme Audit Court of Iran is a government agency overseen by the parliament. The state body is tasked with controlling the financial operations of all ministries, institutions, government companies and organizations that benefit from the state budget in any manner.

Meanwhile, the Iranian institution signed a memorandum of understanding with its Pakistani counterpart. Auditor General of Pakistan Rana Assad Amin and Amin Hussein Rahimi, the outgoing president of Supreme Audit Court of Iran, signed the MoU on Tuesday, Pakistani financial daily Business Recorder reported on Wednesday.

The MoU covers areas on cooperation in public sector auditing. The two sides agreed to benefit from each other’s experiences through study visits, cooperative audits and training programs.

The areas for cooperative audit were identified as border management, environmental issues and electricity transmission.
