Iran’s employment market is gradually distancing itself from patriarchy, says deputy minister of cooperatives, labor and social affairs, Isa Mansouri, citing the decrease in women’s unemployment in the last Iranian year (March 2015-16). According to the Statistical Center of Iran, women’s unemployment rate stood at 19.4% for the period, registering a 0.3% decline compared to the previous year. “Due to cultural reasons, some employers still prefer to take on male employees and the government cannot interfere with that,” Mehr News Agency quoted Mansouri as saying.
