Some 1.2 million head of light livestock (sheep and goats) and 20,000 male calves were exported to the littoral states of the Persian Gulf in the last Iranian year (March 2015-16), according to the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. Iran’s per capita meat production and consumption stands at 10.5 and 11.5 kilograms respectively. About 10% of the domestic demand are imported, IRNA reported.
