Pakistan, India, Nepal and China are busy copying the designs of Persian rugs and selling them under Iran’s name, says the head of the Union for Persian Carpet Importers in Europe. “This is damaging Iran’s reputation worldwide, particularly in Europe,” Ali Mirzazadeh was quoted as saying by IRNA. According to the latest statistics released by Iran National Carpet Center, Iran exported more than 230 tons of hand-woven carpets worth $11 million in the first month of the current Iranian year (started March 20), indicating a 107% and 120% growth in volume and value respectively compared with the corresponding period of last year.
