Between 50,000 and 60,000 tons of eggs are exported annually and more than 850,000 tons of the product are consumed domestically, the head of Tehran’s Union of Producers of Egg-Laying Chickens said. “This is while production currently stands at 950,000 tons, which leaves a surplus of 50-100,000 tons in the sector,” Nasser Nabipour was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. “To keep the market balanced, producers need to reduce production by 10% to 15%,” he added. Egg exports halved in April after Turkey entered international markets last month.
