Pomegranate production is predicted to reach 1.1 million tons in the current Iranian year (March 2016-17), indicating a 10% rise compared with last year’s corresponding figure, Abolqasem Hassanpour, an official with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. According to Hassanpour, Iran tops the list of world’s pomegranate producers followed by India, China, Turkey and the United States. Iraq, Russia, Turkmenistan, the UAE, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Kuwait, France and Switzerland are top export destinations for Iran’s pomegranate.
