Iran accounted for 64% of Turkey›s date imports last year, as more than 16,540 tons of the fruit worth over $4.9 million were shipped to the neighboring country.
Meanwhile, Tunisia exported close to 2,380 tons of dates to Turkey worth almost $5 million during the same period, IRNA reported.
Comparing the figures, it becomes evident Iranian dates are sold cheaply in neighboring markets due to improper packaging and wholesale exports.
Iran accounts for 15.7% of the 7 million tons of date annually produced worldwide.
