More than 190,000 tons of watermelon worth $32 million were exported in the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 20-May 20, 2016).
The main export destinations for Iranian watermelon were Iraq, Romania, the UAE, Turkey, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria and Germany, ISNA reported.
Agricultural experts have time and again warned against the export of watermelon amid the acute shortage of water in the country.
Watermelon is a highly water-intensive crop.
