Close to 100,000 tons of dates have been stored and there will be no shortage of the product in the holy month of Ramadan, an official with the Agricultural Jihad Ministry said. “We will do our best to control price fluctuations in the market,” Abolqasem Hassanpour was also quoted as saying by ISNA. Dates are traditionally used by Muslims fasting in Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, to restore energy. As a result, demand for the product rises during the period. Hassanpour noted that more than 1 million tons of dates were produced in the country in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17), over 170,000 tons of which were exported.
