The Armenian government announced on Thursday the signing of an agreement with Iran on abolishing visa requirements for Iranian travelers. “The agreement is aimed at further development of relations between the two countries, strengthening mutually beneficial economic, trade and other relations and regulation of mutual visits of both countries’ citizens,” the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement reported by Yerevan-based independent online news publication ArmeniaNow. Armenia is known to be a favorite destination for Iranian tourists. Iran also has a sizable ethnic Armenian community estimated at between 70,000 and 200,000. Meanwhile, at the invitation of Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian is due to pay an official visit to Iran on June 5-6, Armenpress reported.
