The national housing project known as Maskan-e Mehr will be replaced by Social Housing project which will kick off at the end of the current Iranian year (ending March 20. Abbas Akhoundi, the minister of roads and urban development, emphasized that the current deficiencies will be corrected. He gave an assurance that people will no longer have problems regarding infrastructural facilities of the housing projects such as water, power, and natural gas. The project was launched by former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the hope of providing thousands of houses to low-income families in Iran. Mehr project, designed in 2007, aimed to cover a part of house shortage through building of around 2 million housing units in 5 years.
