Iran and Lithuania have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote joint investment and bilateral trade.

Visiting Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius and Iran's Deputy Economy Minister Mohammad Khazaei signed the MoU in Tehran on Sunday, Mehr News Agency reported.

Based on the accord, both sides have agreed to form a joint economic commission to promote investment and economic cooperation in transportation, industries, environment, information technology, agriculture, tourism and health.

Linkevicius, accompanied by Lithuania's Deputy Energy Minister Aleksandras Spruogis and a business delegation led by Rimantas Sidlauskas, the head of the Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, arrived in Iran on Friday for a three-day visit.

This is the first visit by a Lithuanian foreign minister to Iran.
