The Guardians Council finally approved the current fiscal year's (March 2016-17) budget on Wednesday, after it was returned twice to the parliament for revision.

The council is a body of 12 jurists in charge of vetting election candidates and overseeing the constitutionality of laws passed by the parliament. This year, the Iranian government and its subsidiary companies will have 9,785 trillion rials ($284.5 billion at market exchange rate) of cash to burn through, a 2.7% rise from the government's original proposal.
