Tehran, Ashgabat Hold Transit Talks

Iran and Turkmenistan discussed ways of increasing cross-border transit in a meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow and Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi in Tehran. The two sides agreed to form a working group, including representatives of Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, to promote the trilateral rail transit corridor, IRNA reported on Sunday  The Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railroad linking Central Asia with the Persian Gulf, which was officially inaugurated in December last year, has 85 kilometers of rail tracks in Iran, 700 km in Turkmenistan and 140 km in Kazakhstan. Akhoundi called for increasing the number of transit trucks crossing the mutual border from the current 600 to 800 per day by July.
