Iran has started the cultivation of wheat and oilseeds in Kazakhstan as part of its agro outsourcing program, said the deputy agricultural minister.  Abbas Keshavar added that Ukraine, Russia and Ghana eill also enter into partnership with Iran in its “Beyond Border Farming” project, IRNA reported. The project is a government-led program aimed at reducing water consumption and ensuring food security by leasing arable land in other countries for growing crops such as oilseeds and grains over 12-15 years. Diminishing water resources, drought, soil degradation and low productivity in the agriculture sector are the main reasons for Iran embarking on this project in the first place.
