A conference hosting hundreds of Iranian and German business figures was held in Tehran on Tuesday. President of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran Mohammad Khazaei and Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy Uwe Beckmeyer attended the confab, Mehr News Agency reported. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to improve bilateral economic relations. Four other agreements were also inked by Iranian and German companies and institutions.  The event was held in lieu of Iran-Germany Economic Commission, which was cancelled after its co-chairman German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel announced that he would not be able to attend because of ill health. On Monday, Gabriel spoke to his Iranian counterpart Ali Tayyebnia on phone and hoped that the joint commission–the first in 15 years–will be held in the nearest future.
