An exhibition of foodstuff and the related industries is scheduled to take place in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan in less than a month, according to Meysam Abbasi, director of Iran-Russia Commercial Center. “The exhibition is aimed at introducing Iran’s non-oil commodities such as nuts, dates, chocolate, fish, conserves, fruit as well as related industries like packaging, into this new export destination,” said Abbasi, adding that more than 100 Iranian companies are showcasing their products and capabilities in the 3-day exhibition. The official added that with access to eight major provinces of the Russian Federation, Kazan can be a gateway for Iranian products to be delivered to the Russian market, Mehr News Agency reported. The decision to hold the exhibition comes after Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, visited Iran on several occasions and expressed his support for the event to take place. During the last few months of 2015, the Russian Federation reconsidered its policies on trade with the West, in retaliation for sanctions imposed on it over the crisis in Ukraine. As such, the Russian market has opened up to Iranian products.
