A delegation from Hong Kong and economic players from the Iranian province of Fars discussed the formation of an economic and commercial joint council, said the chairman of Shiraz Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.

Shiraz is the capital of Fars Province.

“The aim is for Hong Kong traders to be able to take advantage of the facilities provided in Iran’s economic free zones and for Iranian firms to have the opportunity to take part in that country’s annual exhibitions,” Mehr News Agency quoted Fereydoun Forqani as saying.

Earlier this month, Andrew Wells, the head of Asia and Africa Committee of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, headed a 16-strong delegation to Isfahan for discussing economic, commercial and cultural ties with members of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.

More than 80% of Iran’s exports to Hong Kong consist of nuts. Other goods include chicken, leather, polymers, construction stones, plastic and petrochemical products.

Iran imports computer parts, telecoms equipment, watches, radios and stereos, electric circuits and devices, clothes and household appliances from Hong Kong.
