Iran’s greenhouse area will increase fivefold by the end of the Vision Plan in 2025, says an official with the Ministry of Agriculture. “Figures on Iran’s greenhouses in the last Iranian year (ended March 19) are not out yet, but two years ago around 9,606 hectares were under greenhouse cultivation,” Mehr News Agency quoted Dariush Salempour as saying. “The main greenhouse crops grown in Iran are vegetable crops (6,851 hectares), followed by ornamental flowers (2,222 hectares) and strawberries (252 hectares),” he added. Earlier, First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri said one of the main priorities of the government in the new Iranian year is to develop industrial greenhouses. “This form of agriculture would help create jobs and save both water and soil,” he said.
