Banana prices went up in the domestic market after it was announced that the import tariff has been increased from 4% to 26%, as per the new import and export regulations ratified by the government for the new Iranian year (started March 20), announced an official with the Central Fruit and Vegetable Market of Tehran. “Bananas imported under the new tariff have not yet made their way into the market and the ones that are being sold now have been imported before the directive was implemented; yet the prices have increased,” Hadi Bakhtiari was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. According to the directive, bananas can be imported at the low tariff of 5% if apples are exported in return.
