Restaurants are prohibited from asking for service charges, says Ali Asghar Mir-Ebrahimi, an official with Iran Chamber of Guilds. According to the official, with the exception of special events such as celebrations hosted by certain restaurants, they are banned from charging any extra fees. Mir-Ebrahimi noted that about 1,000 restaurants are registered in Tehran, while 300 others have applied for registration.
