Throughput at Iran’s northern port of Anzali has been on the rise since the removal of western sanctions against the country in mid-January, says director general of Gilan Province’s Ports and Maritime Organization, Seyyed Ali Naeimi. “During the last Iranian month of Esfand (February 20-March 19) alone, 116 freighters made calls at Anzali and 328,354 tons of commodities were unloaded at the port,” IRNA quoted the official as saying. Overall, the port handled around 2.7 million tons of goods last year, which shows a 12% drop compared to the previous year.
