Iran exported a record high of 12,500 tons of farmed shrimp valued at $54 million during the 11 months of the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2015), an official with the Iran Fisheries Organization said.

Noting that the exact figure for the entire year has yet to be released, Isa Golshahi added that it is estimated to exceed 13,000 tons, Mehr News Agency reported.

“Seafood exports in general during the 11-month period amounted to 69,000 tons worth $217 million, indicating a 32% and 25% growth in terms of volume and value respectively, as compared to the similar period of the previous year,” he said.

According to the official, the overall value of exports is expected to reach $320-330 million last year.

Golshahi noted that some 900 kg of caviar, 461 tons of fish powder and about 3,000 tons of fish feed were exported during this period.
