A cargo of smuggled fruit weighing 27 tons was destroyed in Tehran on Wednesday after it was found to be carrying health risks by health inspectors. Coconuts, garlics, pitayas (dragon fruit), limes, acorns, grapefruits, French apples, grapes, oranges and mandarins were among the cargo, says secretary of Tehran’s Central Taskforce to Combat the Smuggling of Goods and Foreign Currency Ali-Akbar Pourahmad. “Thirty-one tons of smuggled fruits worth 3 billion rials ($88,235 at market exchange rate) were seized during last week’s inspections of fruit and vegetable markets across Tehran,” Mehr News Agency quoted him as saying. Also, Plant Protection Organization decimated up to 3 tons of smuggled mandarins in Yazd.
