Chabahar: Potential Hub for Tehran-Kabul Trade

Iran’s southern Chabahar Port has the potential to turn into a commercial hub for Afghan and Iranian traders, given its location on the coast of the Sea of Oman and its high capacity for loading and unloading transit commodities, said Ali Osat Hashemi, governor general of Sistan-Balouchestan Province where the port is located. Hashemi was speaking in a recent a meeting with visiting Afghan Consul Abdulrahim Nikpour in the provincial capital of Zahedan.  “Iran is prepared to meet Afghanistan’s demand for fuel through the construction of a fuel terminal and warehouse, and its transportation via pipes,” IRNA quoted Hashemi as saying.  Nikpour said over 100 Afghan merchants and companies are active in Chabahar, “which is a testament to the commercial opportunities in Chabahar”.
