Simplifying tariff and duty regulations will be a priority for the government in the upcoming fiscal year. IRNA also quoted the head of Iran’s Customs Administration, Masoud Karbasian, as saying that high customs duties are the main cause of smuggling in Iran. Karbasian, who is also a deputy economy minister, said ICA is drawing on latest technologies to speed up import/export process. “Currently, the time for goods clearance at customs terminals has been shortened from 26 days to just one day,” he said.
