Iran is in talks with German airline TUIfly to lease passenger aircraft. “Talks are underway, but no decision has been made so far regarding the number of planes and the operation’s starting date,” IRNA quoted a TUIfly official who declined to be named as saying. TUIfly is owned by TUI Group–a multinational travel and tourism company headquartered in Hanover, Germany. According to Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi, Iran needs 400-500 planes in the next 10 years to renovate its dilapidated fleet. The minister announced last week it has reached an agreement with French plane maker Airbus to purchase 114 passenger aircraft.
