Iran exports about 300 tons of eggs on a daily basis, said chairman of the Union of Egg-Laying Hen Farmers. Reza Torkashvand added that the eight months to November 21 saw exports of 68,000 tons of eggs to Persian Gulf littoral states, Iraq and Afghanistan, IRNA reported. Around 920,000 tons of eggs were produced by Iran’s 1,700 commercial egg farming units in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2014). “The figure is expected to rise to 930,000 tons this year,” Torkashvand said. Per capita consumption of eggs in Iran is currently 191.
