1,500 Railcars Running Again

Bandar Torkaman’s railcar repair and restoration center has fixed over 1,500 railcars in the past three years, according to Ebrahim Gran-Paha, Islamic Republic of Iran North Railway’s CEO. The plant which is one of two such workshops in the country, the other being in the city of Karaj located west of Tehran, restarted work in 2010 after eight years. Bandar Torkaman (Torkaman Port) plant, situated in the north of Iran, has a five-year contract with the railway company to refurbish 2,000 disused railcars. The privately-owned plant fixes both passenger cars and freight cars and has restored 200 railcars so far this year.
