Azerbaijan has introduced a temporary restriction on the import of livestock and livestock products from Iran in connection with the outbreak of foot and mouth disease. The latest outbreak was recorded in the Iranian province of Qom by the World Organization for Animal Health. As of January 8, some 15 cases out of a total of 1,250 cattle were reported, and two of these animals died in Qom, Azerbaijani newspaper AzerNews reported. “The import of animals and animal products from the provinces of Qom, Arak, Kashan and Tehran were temporarily restricted,” Azerbaijan’s State Service of Veterinary Supervision affiliated to the Agriculture Ministry announced. In response, over 28,000 cattle have been vaccinated in Qom.
