Italy’s first exclusive trade exhibition is being held at Tehran’s International Fairground. Over 30 Italian companies are showcasing their latest products and services related to urban planning, interior design and architecture. The Persian daily Donya-e-Eqtesad earlier reported that this is the first exclusive exhibition held by a European country in Iran. More than €500,000 worth of contracts are expected to be signed between the companies of the two countries during the four-day event that started on January 5. Italy used to be Tehran’s number one European trading partner, but close to €7 billion in bilateral trade in 2011 nosedived to slightly above €1 billion after the West imposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear energy program.
