Flower, Ornamental Plant Exports

Mahallat County in Markazi Province exported flowers and ornamental plants worth $10.8 million to Iraq, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Japan and Thailand during the nine-month period ending December 21. There are currently around 900 hectares of fields under flower cultivation in Mahallat. Iran is the world’s 17th biggest flower producer, but ranks 107th in global flower exports, according to Gholamhossein Soltan-Mohammadi, the head of Tehran Flower Producers and Exports Association. “Poor packaging and high production costs have rendered Iranian flowers uncompetitive in the global market,” he was quoted by ISNA as saying.
