Iran will start genetic modification of shrimp, carp and trout in cooperation with Brazilian and Hungarian experts in the fourth quarter of the current Iranian year (to end March 19, 2016), said Mohammad Pourkazemi, the head of Iranian Fisheries Science Research Institutes, IRNA reported. Genetic modification, also called genetic engineering, is the direct manipulation of an organism’s genome using biotechnology. It is a set of technologies used to change the genetic makeup of cells, including the transfer of genes within and across species boundaries to produce improved or novel organisms.
