The government has purchased more than 8.5 million tons of wheat from local farmers so far in the current Iranian year (to end March 19), IRNA quoted Deputy Agriculture Minister Ali Qanbari as saying. According to the official, Iran does not need to import wheat in the next Iranian year due to this year’s bumper harvest and brimming reserves. “Iran’s durum wheat reserves currently stand at 600,000 tons,” he said. Durum wheat is a high-protein strong strain, especially used for making pasta.
