EU Green Light to Iran’s Organic Produce

Iran’s saffron, pomegranate, pistachio and concentrates of pomegranate and Damask rose have secured the organic certification from the European Union, says the head of the Organic Association of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.  “Organic products earn twice as much as conventional agricultural produce, therefore the government needs to encourage their exports,” Mehr News Agency quoted Reza Nourani as saying.  Organic fruit and vegetable are grown without the use of pesticides, fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms or ionizing radiation. Organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products are farmed free from antibiotics or growth hormones.
