Farmers should not be burdened with paying high water prices, neither should low consumers in urban areas, presidential advisor Akbar Torkan told ILNA on Friday. “However, an increase in water prices based on the users’ affordability is inevitable, Torkan asserted. “Low water users should be exempted from mandatory reduction requirements,” he said, adding that it wouldn’t be fair to increase water prices for all. Low water users may qualify for discounted water services depending on household incomes, he said. “Most farmers cannot afford expensive water. It is important to classify urban water users regarding their financial capabilities and consumption level,” he added.
