The nuclear deal clinched between Iran and world powers is no silver bullet for improving trade ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, said Deputy Economy Minister Mohammad Khazaei in a forum organized by Turkmenistan’s Commercial Desk in Gorgan, the capital of Golestan Province, last week. “Two factors are vital for reaching sustainable trade between the two countries: effective collaboration and improving synergy between the bodies involved in bilateral trade as well as the quality of exports,” Mehr News Agency quoted Khazaei as saying. Also present at the forum was Masoud Karbasian, the head of Iran Customs Administration. He put imports from and exports to Turkmenistan in the eight months ending November 21 at $15 million and $573 million respectively, blaming the insignificant transactions on the two countries’ incompatible weekends. “Incheh Borun, Sarakhs and Lotfabad are the main customs handling Iran’s trade with Turkmenistan,” he said. Representatives of commerce chambers of North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, Semnan and Mazandaran provinces, and traders involved in trade with Turkmenistan participated in the event.
