Iran tops the list of world’s pomegranate producers, says an official with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. Abolqasem Hassanpour added that domestic production registered a 10% rise in the current Iranian year (started March 21) to exceed 1 million tons. India ranks second by producing 900,000 tons, followed by China (300,000 tons), Turkey (220,000) and the US (210,000 tons), IRNA quoted Hassanpour as saying. “Iraq, Russia, Turkmenistan, the UAE, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Kuwait, France and Switzerland are top export destinations of Iran’s pomegranate,” he said.
