East Azarbaijan Province is estimated to produce 1.3 million tons of apple in the current Iranian year (to end March 19, 2016), which will be 40% more than last year’s production, according to the province’s Agricultural Jihad Organization. The southwestern province accounts for 30-40% of Iran’s apple production and holds a 7% share of the country’s agricultural products. There are 96,000 hectares of apple groves in the province, the Persian daily Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.
