Ban on Chinese Ornamental Plants

The import of ornamental plants from China has been banned “until further notice”, Trade Promotion Organization of Iran announced, following reports from the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad that such imports could carry pests and diseases amid lax controls on the part of Chinese exporters, IRNA reported. According to Ali Baghestani, the head of Plant Protection Organization affiliated to the ministry, the government has destroyed 30,000 infected ornamental plants imported from China in the current Iranian year (started March 21).
