Rail Fares to Rise

One week after the liberalization of airplane ticket fares, deputy head of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Mohammad Rashedi, has announced that rail fares are to rise by 8% on average as of December 16. Ninety-one trains out of the total 137 trains will see a 10% rise in ticket prices and the rates for the remaining 46 will increase by 15%, the official said. Rashedi added that only companies, which consider discounts on off-peak days, are allowed to raise their fares by 20%, Mehr News Agency reported.
