One week after the liberalization of airplane ticket fares, deputy head of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Mohammad Rashedi, has announced that rail fares are to rise by 8% on average as of December 16. Ninety-one trains out of the total 137 trains will see a 10% rise in ticket prices and the rates for the remaining 46 will increase by 15%, the official said. Rashedi added that only companies, which consider discounts on off-peak days, are allowed to raise their fares by 20%, Mehr News Agency reported.
