Around 20,000 billion rials ($570 million) worth of bread are wasted annually in Iran, said the managing director of Government Trading Corporation of Iran. Ali Qanbari was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Ninth Flour and Bakery Industry Exhibition (Ibex 2015) on Sunday. “The problem is solvable by training the bakers, increasing mechanization and improving the quality of raw materials such as wheat and flour. With the help of the private sector, GTC tries to improve the quality of bread in the country,” IRNA quoted Qanbari as saying. Bread and flour production companies and manufacturers of bread, pastry-making and packaging machinery are participating in Ibex, which will run through December 9.
