More than 74,000 tons of apples worth over $441 million were exported from West Azarbaijan Province to Iraq, India, Pakistan, the UAE, Kuwait, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan during the seven-month period ending October 22, according to the province’s Agricultural Jihad Organization. During the period, 1.3 million tons of apples were produced, indicating a 38% increase compared to last year’s corresponding figure. West Azarbaijan is one of the main agricultural hubs of Iran, as its 1.3 million hectares of arable land account for close to 6% of the country’s total agricultural production, IRNA reported.
