Iran is the world’s seventh biggest producer of honey with the production of 78,000 tons per annum, said an official with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. Habib Amini added that the country accounts for 7 million of the total 81 million beehives in the world. “Each Iranian beehive yields 11 kilograms of honey that is unique in quality due to Iran’s favorable climatic conditions and plant diversity,” IRNA quoted the official as saying. In spring, some 600 tons of honey worth more than $3 million were exported to 16 countries, with the UAE and Turkey being the main customers of Iranian honey.
