Cheap steel sheets imported from China, South Korea and Kazakhstan have resulted in Iranian auto manufacturers balking at domestically manufactured products, said Mohammad Azad, chairman of Tehran Iron and Steel Union. According to the official, domestic sheets cost about $330 per ton, while imported sheets are priced at close to $290 per tons. Azad called on the government to support domestic producers or brace itself for more factories going out of business and greater unemployment, ILNA reported.
