About 5 million tons of potatoes and 2.1 million tons of onions are expected to be produced this crop year, according to an official with the Agriculture Ministry, Hassan Khadangi. “Some 200,000 hectares of land under vegetable cultivation have been equipped with micro-irrigation systems this year,” he told ISNA. The micro-irrigation method, also called drip-irrigation, saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants through a network of valves, pipes, tubing and emitters.
