Pomegranate production and exports are expected to increase in the current Iranian year (started March 21), says Abolqasem Hassanpour, an official at the Agricultural Jihad Ministry. “It is estimated that 65,000 hectares of orchards across the country will yield 1 million tons of pomegranates this year,” IRNA quoted Hassanpour m as saying. The official also estimated that more than 100,000 tons of pomegranates and its related products will be exported this year. Last year, Iran was the second largest producer of pomegranate in the world, closely following the United States. South Korea is one of the main importers of Iran’s pomegranates.
