More than 2.2 million tons of commodities were transported via railroad from Shahid Rajaei Port during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), indicating a 51% increase compared with last year’s corresponding period, says Ebrahim Idani, head of Ports and Maritime Organization of Hormozgan Province. “The main transported goods were mazut, copper, sulfur, ironware, iron pellets, minerals, cooking oil, rail and wheat,” he added. Shahid Rajaei Port, described as Iran’s “economic golden gate” by Idani, boasts an extensive rail network of about 53 kilometers and is connected to the national railroads and also the International North-South Transport Corridor.
